Nepali Women’s Global Network (NWGN) Condemns Violence Against Gen-Z Protesters in Nepal – Press Release Feb 5, 2026

by | Feb 5, 2026 | Uncategorized

The Nepali Women’s Global Network (NWGN) is heartbroken and outraged by the tragic events unfolding in Nepal. What began as a peaceful protest led by Gen Z demanding accountability and transparency has been met with state-sanctioned violence that has claimed the lives of at least 19 young people and left hundreds more injured.

This is not a political issue. This is a humanity issue. No government can justify turning weapons on its children. It is important to recognize that this movement is not only about a social media ban. It reflects decades of systemic corruption, unaccountability, and the unmet promises of leadership that have left generations of Nepalese in frustration and disappointment.

The voices rising in the streets are a call for dignity, fairness, and a future where leadership is responsible to its people. Our youth are demanding leadership that puts the nation before personal gain. Their voices must be heard, not silenced.

To the courage-filled voices of Nepal’s Gen Z: your bravery is rewriting Nepal’s story. The world mourns with the families who have lost loved ones, and commends your pursuit of dignity, justice, and a future rooted in integrity. You are not forgotten, and your movement is already changing the narrative. The world is mourning with you and standing in solidarity in your fight for justice and a better Nepal. Never before in Nepal’s history have so many people been killed or injured in such a short span of time during a public protest. NWGN unequivocally condemns all acts of violence—especially this cowardly attack on peaceful Gen Z protestors—and calls for:

● Accountability and a full, independent investigation into the incident;

● Protection of the fundamental rights of all peaceful protestors; and

● A genuine commitment from national leadership to listen, engage, and deliver meaningful reforms.
