Soni Thapa is an educator, researcher and community worker. She received her PhD in Sociology and MA in Women’s Studies at Texas Women’s University in the United States. She also holds an MA in Psychology, a post-graduation degree in Women’s Studies from Tribhuvan University, Nepal and Diploma in Community Based Development from Coady International Institute, Canada. During her graduate school in the US, she conducted two pioneering studies: Intimate Partner Violence among Nepalese Women in the United States and Adaptation of Nepalese in the United States. In her previous job as an executive director of a non-profit organization, she was involved in designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating community-based development programs while empowering rural women of Nepal through micro-finance programs. Currently, she lives in Toronto and teaches at Humber College, Canada.
